Under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor of Beni Suef, Dr. Jan-Henri Hanna, President of Beni Suef Technological University, participated in a meeting to discuss the necessary arrangements for implementing the “16 Days” campaign against gender-based violence sponsored by the Ministry of Local Development, within the national strategy to empower women in its four axes, which will start on November 25 and conclude on December 10, 2023, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor of Beni Suef, confirmed that enhancing the role of women in all fields comes within the Egyptian state’s strategy to empower women in various fields, noting that for this purpose, legislation and laws have been enacted to guarantee women’s rights, whereas executive and societal bodies implement supportive mechanisms and activities enhancing the role of women in society and their positive participation in the development process and continuous realization of the principle of equal opportunities.
The governor explained that the concept of violence against women includes all types of psychological and moral harm, and all forms of discrimination, marginalization that inflicts on women, and reflects negatively on their role and status in society, resulting into reduction of their role in specific areas, which made the state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, wowk on implementing a package of programs aimed at educating women in all aspects so that they can understand their rights and duties, raise their standard of living, and empower them socially and economically, especially in the countryside, noting that efforts in this regard made in some villages.
For his part, Dr. Jan Henry, President of the University, confirmed that the Egyptian state has placed the issue of promoting and consolidating women’s rights in society on the list of national priorities and strategies, as the political leadership has supported women and empowered them politically, economically, and socially, in addition to providing them with all aspects of care and protection, out of awareness and belief in their worth, her ability to pursue life, her leadership and her entrepreneurship at the highest level, in addition to the influential role she played in important historical, political, and national events and the sacrifices she made, in addition to being a key player in sustainable development processes. He pointed out that improving the status of women in society and their access to all their rights is considered one of the fundamental factors that create an enlightened society believing in the mutual respect for pluralism.
The meeting was attended by the dean of the Faculty of Information at Nahda University, the director of the Women’s Affairs Unit in the governorate, the rapporteur of the branch of the National Council for Women in Beni Suef, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Solidarity, the Director General of Youth and Sports, and some officials of participating agencies such as Al-Azhar, Preaching and Guidance, the International Organization of Al-Azhar Graduates, and the Unit Population, women’s units in various universities in the governorate, the Investment Service Office, industrial zones, and the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
