Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, outlined a submitted report by Dr. Sayed Abdel Qader, President of Bani Swief Technological University, on the university’s educational and research activities.
The minister emphasized that the establishment of Bani Swief Technological University represents an important shift in the development of a new path for technical education in Egypt which comes in implementation of the directives of the political leadership to pay more attention to technical and technological education.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the university works on providing students with the required practical and scientific skills for the labor market through various technological programs, which were developed based on the needs of the national projects in Egypt.
The report referred to the international cooperation between the University and South Korea, through the signed agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Korean Agency for International Cooperation (KOICA) to finance the university with 5.8 million dollars to supply the university’s laboratories with advanced devices, equipment, machines and furniture.
The report indicated that Bani Suief Technological University includes the Egyptian-Korean Faculty of Technological Industry and Energy, and the college has three departments in industry, information, and energy technology. These departments include four programs in mechatronics, information technology, autotronics, new and renewable energy and their accreditation is being carried out from the Institution of ABEEK which is in charge of quality assurance and accreditation for technological and engineering programs in South Korea.
The report also indicated the material and technical support provided to the university from South Korea, as financially it was supported by laboratories in the field of mechatronics (computer manufacturing laboratory, microcontrollers laboratory, hydraulic and pneumatics laboratory, programmable logic control laboratory, projects laboratory), and in the field of information technology (software laboratories, networking laboratories, application laboratories).
Technically, the report added that a group of university leaders and teaching staff were trained at Korea University for Technology and Education (Korea Tech) and Poly Tech University. The teaching staff and those in charge of the laboratories were also trained by Korean experts using the latest technological technologies and how to optimize the use of the equipment and devices in the laboratories to achieve the desired benefits, and to prepare a generation of technologists able to use such equipment in various industrial entities; thus enhancing the university’s position locally, regionally and internationally.
In terms of study and curriculum, the report indicated that Bani Suief Technological University focuses on the practical side, as training, field applications, and skills acquisition represent at least 60% of the academic program, and a number of books and study references were developed for the mechatronics and Information Technology programs in partnership with Korea University for Technology and Education.
