Under the patronage of Dr. Jean-Henry Hanna, President of Beni Suef University of Technology, the Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination against Women Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Women’s Affairs at the General Diwan of Beni Suef Governorate, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Protect her and do not harm her”, as part of the activities of the 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women, and in implementation of Egypt’s 2030 strategy, which aims to develop supportive mechanisms and activities that enhance the role of women in society and their positive participation in the development process and achieve the principle of equal opportunities.
The seminar dealt with the types and forms of violence and the legal mechanisms to address it, the role of Islam in honoring women, their rights from a religious perspective, their right to electoral participation, early marriage and increased childbearing.
The seminar was attended by representatives from the Women’s Affairs and Child Protection Unit in the governorate, the Al-Azhar Reunification and Preaching Unit, the Equal Opportunities Unit, the Security Directorate, and the Upper Egypt Channel.It is worth noting that the 16 Days campaign to combat violence against women was launched on November 26, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women as part of the state’s efforts to empower women and aims to combat all forms of violence and will continue for 16 days until December 10 this month.
