Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, presented a report by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shoukr Nada, President of Bani Swief Technological University, in the presence of Dr. Assem Salama, Deputy Governor of Beni Suef. The report was about the visit of the Korean delegation to the university headed by Mr. Kim Young Soo, Deputy Minister of International Development Cooperation.
The report indicated that the aim of the Korean delegation’s visit to the University was to enhance joint cooperation, and study the possibility of developing future work plans, as well as activating the existing cooperation through the signed agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the State of South Korea to support Bani Swief Technological University technically and educationally.
The report pointed out to the possibility of the University obtaining a new grant of up to $8 million for four years after the end of the current grant. The new grant includes the possibility of establishing a consultative educational institute for technical education comprising two centers, one for research training in the field of automobiles, and the other is for desalination and water purification technology. It also includes the development of two new technological programs, one for railway technology and the other for smart environmental urbanization technology, in addition to developing the existing programs, discussing the University’s obtaining of international accreditation and quality, and training faculty members and staff according to the global foundations of technological education.
During the visit, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shoukr Nada, University President, gave a detailed presentation of the capabilities of Bani Swief Technological University. The presentation included an explanation of the programs, the educational technological laboratories in them, the signed protocols with industrial entities, bodies, and various companies, in addition to a presentation of the University’s cultural and scientific activities besides the activities of the Entrepreneurship Office that was recently established at the University. The presentation also included the scientific conferences organized by the University, especially the first international conference by the University, “Development of Technological Education around the World: Experiences and Challenges”, and the first conference for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which is currently being prepared for with the Korean side in November 2021. Prof. Dr. Nada also presented the University’s future plan, which includes the possibility of expanding the programs and new buildings through the inclusion of the “Silicon Oasis” in Beni Suef and Assiut, and the Integrated Technical Education Cluster of the Education Development Fund in Fayoum.
The Korean delegation toured the new laboratories of the New and Renewable Energy Program and the Autotronics Program after they have been provided with advanced technological devices and machines. They also toured the University’s laboratories of the mechatronics and information technology programs.
During the meeting, Mr. Kim Youngsu, Deputy Minister of International Development Cooperation, welcomed the cooperation with Egypt in the fields of technological education, stressing the importance of expanding in establishing technological universities. He also indicated his interest in studying the possibility of the university obtaining a new grant and supporting the university financially and technically to graduate students who are capable of competing in the global markets. And finally, he praised the recent development work in the University.
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shoukr Nada expressed his happiness for the fruitful cooperation with the Korean partners in the Korean Embassy, the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and the Korean University of Technology and Education (Korea Tech) in order to benefit from the Korean experience in the field of education and industry. He pointed out that this visit comes within the framework of the political leadership’s directions in supporting technological universities which represent a modern and important aspect in the path of higher education in Egypt through working on improving technological education within the framework of the Ministry’s strategy to develop the higher education and scientific research system in Egypt in accordance with the state’s vision for sustainable development, “Egypt Vision 2030”, and in implementation of the state’s plan for industrial and technological development.
It is worth mentioning that this year Bani Swief Technological University has created a new program in addition to its existing programs (mechatronics – information technology – autotronics – new and renewable energy). The new program is for prosthetics and orthotics technology to meet the labor market’s needs of qualified technologists in the medical field to serve patients through the designing and making of prosthetics, as well as evaluating, designing, and creating orthotics to improve health and comfort. The university also has qualified faculty members and teaching assistants from various industrial, technological, medical and engineering backgrounds and experiences in order to meet the increase in the number of students and the introduction of new programs.
