Yesterday, Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received Mr. Hong Jin Wook, Ambassador of South Korea in Cairo, at the Ministry to discuss means of cooperation between Egypt and South Korea in the scientific, educational, research and technological fields.

At the beginning of the meeting, the minister affirmed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with South Korea, pointing to the historical relations and positive developments between the two countries, especially after the establishment of the Egyptian-Korean Faculty of Technological Industry and Energy at Bani Swief Technological University, praising that huge educational project as one of the fruitful models of cooperation between the two countries which aims to provide the Egyptian labor market with qualified labor to carry out the required tasks at the highest technical level.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of benefiting from the Korean expertise, especially in the technological fields, as well as exchanging experiences and increasing fields of cooperation between the two sides in all disciplines including: technical education, vocational training, and preparing students for the labor market.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar also stressed on the importance of cooperation between the Korean side and the Ministry’s Electronics Research Institute, particularly in the sciences valleys praising the Korean expertise in this field. He also pointed to the importance of the Institute’s Science and Technology City to be a valley of sciences valleys in the field of electronics and research. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar invited the Korean ambassador to visit the clean room at the Electronics Research Institute, which is a project that was designed to be the base for the advancement of the electronics industry in the Middle East. In addition, he praised the expertise of the Korean side in the field of constructing clean rooms.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms of cooperation between Egypt and South Korea to benefit from the Korean expertise in the projects of the new technological universities which are scheduled to be started in September 2022. The Minister stressed on the importance of including new study programs in these universities that are consistent with the nature of the industrial areas in which these universities are located and the needs of the labor market.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of concluding further agreements and partnerships between the two countries, and agreed to encourage joint research in the fields of education, space and information technology.

The Korean ambassador stressed on the depth of the relations between Egypt and South Korea, praising the development witnessed by the relations between the two countries. He stressed on his country’s keenness to encourage bilateral cooperation with Egypt during the next stage at all levels, especially education and technology.

The Korean ambassador referred to the cooperation with the Egyptian Space Agency in the field of space sciences and technology, praising the capabilities of the Egyptian Space Agency and stressing that the space sector is one of the important sectors.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Deputy Minister for University Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Al-Azazi, Head of Cultural Affairs and Missions Sector, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Hewi, Advisor to the Minister for Technical Education and Secretary General of the Education Development Fund in the Cabinet of Ministers, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shoukr Nada, Acting President of Bani Swief Technological University.
