Under the support of Dr. Sayed Abdel Kader, President of Beni Suef Technological University, the university hosted the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence, which is being implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Development and Beni Suef Governorate at the Egyptian-Korean College of Industry and Energy Technology, with the participation of Dr. Mona Abdullah – Member of Parliament, Mrs. Nermin Mahmoud – the Reporter of the National Council for Women branch in Beni Suef, General Muhammad Darwish – Human Rights and Violence Against Women Unit in the Beni Suef Security Directorate, Dr. Ghada Tosson – a member of the National Council for Women, Mrs. Shaima Karam – Women’s Affairs and Child Protection Unit at the Governorate’s general office, and a number of members of the National Council for Women.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Muhammad Qaid, the Dean of the College, Vice Deans, Department Coordinators and faculty members at the university, in addition to a number of students, amid precautionary measures to prevent infection with the Coronavirus.
At the beginning, the university president welcomed the attendees, expressing his happiness with the participation of Beni Suef Technological University in the activities of the “16 days” campaign of activities to combat violence against women, praising the role of Egyptian women as representing the family as a whole, and also praising the National Council branch and its activities that support and develop the capabilities and skills of women in Beni Suef Governorate.

Mrs. Nermin Mahmoud, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women in Beni Suef Branch, emphasized that the aim of this campaign is to meet with the largest number of different age groups and to implement a large number of activities to solve many issues and problems related to women, including early marriage, undocumented marriage, high divorce rates within the villages, the problems of breadwinning women, and personal status issues related to women. She also stressed that there will be joint activities in the near future between the National Council for Women and Beni Suef Technological University to participate in the activities of the Council to find solutions to these problems.
During her speech, Dr. Mona Abdullah thanked the University President for his invitation and emphasized the unity of all state institutions to raise the citizen’s awareness, noting that the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women is one of the activities carried out by all institutions to achieve Egypt’s vision 20-30 to provide a decent life for the Egyptian citizen through social inclusion and gender equality. She pointed to the bad use of technology through websites and social media as a tool for pressure, defamation and blackmail, which is considered one of the means of violence directed against women.
General Mohamed Darwish, Human Rights and Violence Against Women Unit in the Beni Suef Security Directorate, stressed the importance of not placing any data or personal pictures on social media sites, applications and programs to prevent their use in blackmail and defamation, and also indicated the need not to deal with anonymous messages, indicating the need to report these crimes, especially in light of the secrecy of reports for such crimes.
Mrs. Shaima Karam, the Violence Against Women Unit at the General Office of the Governorate, explained some forms of complaints submitted to the unit and how the unit deals with them through the assistance of all concerned authorities.
At the end of the seminar, Dr. Muhammad Qaid, the Dean of the College, thanked the attendees, stressing that many of these activities would be held in the college to educate students about the role of women and participate in various activities that raise their awareness.
